Depression

Depression can feel different to different people.  It can make you feel numb as though life seems to slow down.  It can creep up on you seemingly for no reason.  Sometimes the fact that other people seem to be enjoying life while you don't find joy from the things you used to can make life feel painfully lonely.

You might recognise that you use a lot of emotional energy trying to cover up what you feel inside by acting more sociable with friends or turning on your "game face" at work.   Keeping this up can be exhausting.

NHS England show that talking therapies, especially relational therapy such as psychodynamic therapy are effective in dealing with depression:

Seeking professional help is one of the first things you can do to help.

Your Hertford Therapy Counsellor will work with you in a psychodynamic way.  We will help you to identify the patterns around the depression and work with you to build ways to spot it coming on and give yourself the best chance of being in control of it.  We may look together at what's happening in your life now and whether anything may be contributing to your depressive feelings.  And things in your past may be resurfacing to further deepen your mood so this is sometimes important to gain insight too aswell.
