Anxiety

Feelings of anxiety are a human phenomena and are there to keep us safe.  However, sometimes this anxiety can take over our thoughts and lead to, among other things repetitive, negative thoughts and retreating from our normal social and professional activities.

There are many behavioural symptoms of anxiety: people pleasing, procrastination, avoiding or withdrawing from events, staying in your safe zone, asking others for reassurance, excessive checking, over-planning and needing things to be carried out in a particular way.

And there are also physical manifestations of anxiety which can include:

panic attacks, inability to draw a full breath, racing heart, sweating, many gastric symptoms, tingling or numbness, fatigue, itching or skin rashes.

Psychodynamic therapy with Hertford Therapy helps by exploring the underlying emotional conflicts and relationship patterns that give rise to these feelings of anxiety.  Clients may be able to notice how anxiety may be linked to early experiences, attachments, or unspoken fears such as loss, anger or rejection.  through our sessions, and giving rise to these unconscious feelings, the client often finds that anxiety is no longer overwhelming and they find greater resilience.
